We have a new redneck name leader in the clubhouse, folks.  In case you don’t know, a Hemi is a type of vehicle engine.  This is analogous to naming your kid Gearshift, Shotgun or Bird Dog.

Its also a traditional Maori name that is very common in New Zealand

That’s great Courtney, but if he lives in the USA he better have “I am a Maori from New Zealand” tattooed to his forehead or else everyone will think he’s named for his dad’s Dodge truck.

I agree V8! Who names their kid Hemi likes it’s cute in America?!

White trash. Plain and simple. It’s like naming a kid ls1 or big block.

Hemi is a Maori name based on the English ‘James’ or ‘Jimmy’, or possibly ‘Sam’, I can’t remember. The Maoris were a bit short on consonants when the English arrived (but they have truly epic vowel sounds) and the letter J was not yet available. Now that supply has been provided, they are world leaders in the production of Jaxxons, Jaycyns and Jaykubs.
