What in the hell is this, now? Is this a bastardization of Bridgette? I don’t even get it – it’s not “pretty” or :cute” – and this poor kid will have to watch people stammer through this monstrosity for her entire life. My money says she picks a nickname by age 2 and sticks to it.

it’s from the sound of music, but still… pretty bad if you live outside of Nazi-occupied Austria
It’s Swedish and popular in German/Scandinavian catholic families because of 17th century religious strife; btw, do you have any idea how silly the Englisch version (yes it´s Bridget) sounds in German?
This name isn’t that freaky.
In switzerland, it’s usual calling “Brigit”; in germany they call “Brigitte”. Even there’s a weekly magazine for women called “Brigitte”…
This Name is very common in the middle and north of europe. And it has nothing to do with “Nazi Austria”. Get your facts right.
Actually, Brigitte or Brigitta is a fairly common form of “Bridget” in German or related languages; just slightly old-fashioned. Depends all on the context.
I’m sure it does – but I’m in America, writing from an American point of view. These names were all found in America.
Ahhh, because only “AMERICANS” live in America. It certainly is not a nation made up of immigrants from diverse backgrounds, and how dare they bring their damned cultures and names into American society?!
Exactly – if you want to save your kid a childhood of anguish. When in Rome…
Umm…Brigitta is a legit and very old name, so I don’t think it needs to be in the same category as Tripp or Pussycat Doppelganger.
That’s why I’m running the show – because it does, in fact, belong right there.
