Schuyler

For my money, Skylar is probably the worst name on the planet. ¬†Or at least it was, until this one was shit out of someone’s ass.

Schuyler is my last name. Pronounced Sky-ler. It’s a decent last name but a downright awful first name. I think Skyler is worse than Schuyler though. If you’re going to give your kid a bad name the spelling may as well be genuine.

I *like* Schuyler as a first or a last name, but I can’t stand to see it spelled Skyler. Unfortunately a lot of people have a hard time pronouncing “Schuyler”.

Hey…. that’s my first name and my mom loves me very much. Lot’s of people say it is ‘shoo-ler’ but I correct them and all is well. :-) I’m sorry you think I should be named Jane, but that is rather plain. HEY! I’m a poet, and you can go fuck yourselves.

Your Mom loves her perception that she is witty and clever more than she loves you, apparently, or she wouldn’t have named you something ridiculous that people regularly pronounce Shoo-ler.

And I don’t think you should be named Jane. I just know that you shouldn’t be named Schuyler.

Common 19th century name. Even had a Vice President named Schuyler Colfax

And that somehow makes it suck less?

Fuck you, I love my name. Just because it’s German doesn’t mean it’s stupid, asshole.

You’re absolutely right – nothing about it being German makes it stupid. It’s stupid for many other reasons.

I know the son of some German immigrants who named their him with their own language’s spelling. I think they’re the only ones who could possibly get a pass on this.

If you have to pronounce it or spell out the name to people, DONT USE IT.

I love the name Skylar, this is one of the names where I totally go with the anglicised spelling rather than the traditional. Schuyler is just hideous.
