Icarus

by Lemonjello Redenbacher on March 15, 2010

I have actually seen quite a bit of fawning over this name on some of the baby boards.  I don’t profess to be an expert in Greek mythology, but wasn’t Icarus the fabled moron who made some wings with wax and feathers and shit,  flew too close to the sun, melted off all of the wax, then did a fatal cannon ball into the ocean?

Yeah…that’s the kind of brilliance I want my kid to share a name with.

Icarus was the unfortunate son of Dedalus – the moron who made the wings of wax, that melted and killed both of them :)

No…Daedalus didn’t die. He was the one who told Icarus not to fly too close to the sun, but Icarus didn’t listen and died. Daedalus was a genius inventor, and the wings worked in the myth (remember, this is mythology physics ;) ) and he survived.
