Because Caroline isn’t quite good enough for her baby.

Someone please explain to me why a name that is pronounced the same, but spelled incorrectly, is better?  Or shit — how is it even that much “different?”  When I meet someone, I don’t write their fucking name down and show it to them when I want their attention — I say it out loud.  Karaline = Caroline.

These people just crave attention.

…I’m going to say that my parents were the exception to the ‘craving attention’ statement. My dad picked the name, and my mom made up the spelling because she wasn’t a huge fan of the classic spelling. And, yeah, it’s obnoxious getting birthday cards from grandparents with your name spelled wrong on the front (you would think they’d get it after 20 years), but I wasn’t named this because my parents thought it was “better.” I was named Karaline because that’s just how my mom liked it spelled. I’m 99% positive that she wasn’t sitting there popping prenatal pills and thinking, “I’m gonna misspell a classic name just to screw with people.”

Of course your parents were the exception, Karaline. Of course they were. Whatever makes you sleep better at night…

The only one I knew by that name always went by Kara.

Seen plenty of just Kara, but most of them weren’t short for Karaline.
