Branwen

by Lemonjello Redenbacher on July 31, 2009

This name apparently comes from some medieval Welsh story.  Here’s what I found when I Googled it:

“Branwen, Daughter of Llŷr is a major character in the Second Branch of the Mabinogi, which is sometimes called the Mabinogi of Branwen after her. Branwen is a daughter of Llyr and Penarddun.  She is married to the King of Ireland, but the marriage does not bring peace.”

Now, all kidding aside, what kid wouldn’t fuck with a kid whose name comes from shit like this?  Christ — they might as well dress her up in a star fleet outfit for the first day of school.

Two words-

“breakfast” and “cereal.”

lol…that was the angle I had originally decided to go with, until I read where it actually came from.

I’m afraid there are several levels of torment that this poor child will have to endure.

A Starfleet outfit would be bitchin’, but Branwen is still a stupid name.

If the kid is American, then you can guarantee that his mom is Wiccan. At least Branwen is an okay name that she took from Old Welsh rather than Gaelic or Irish (i.e. at least Americans can pronounce Branwen)
