Thor

by Lemonjello Redenbacher on July 13, 2009

Obviously, this is not a new or made up name, but it is stupid nonetheless.

If you can guarantee that your child is going to be a strapping, menacing Viking-like warrior with bulging muscles of stone and flowing, blonde locks — then Thor is fair game.  If there is any chance at all that your kid will be anything less, then Thor is a curse.

By the way, I think a lot of people pronounce this “tore” and not “thor.”  That makes it infinitely worse.

Thor is actually a given name in Iceland, but so is Snot.

The thunder god went riding out,
A-riding on his filly.
“I’m Thor!” he cried;
His horse replied,
“You forgot your thaddle, thilly!”

So, what you’re saying is, if the name is not American in origin, then it’s a stupid name? That’s a pretty uneducated view of things.

Ummm…no. That’s not what I said at all. What I said was the IF you live in America and IF you name your kid some foreign name – he or she will suffer for it. Just a fact of life. Didn’t say it was right – it sucks. But it is what it is, so if you want your kid to have an easier path – don’t do it.

Thor is a badass name. It’s too bad that stupid shit like Marvel comic’s Thor gives it a bad name. They make the god of thunder look like a cheesy mother fucker. In the actual mythology he is a badass.

“Actual mythology?” Pretty big oxymoron, isn’t it?

Growing up I had a friend named Thor. Great guy. His sisters were all hot and had smokin’ Norse names also. They sold AMC Gremlins. Not very heroic in that regard.

Cheers

My 14-year-old son’s name is Thor and no one has ever made fun of his name. In fact, most guys think the name is awesome, especially if they got stuck with something like Braden, Kaden or Jaden.
(And yes…he will most likely be over 6′ tall, broad shouldered and he does have flowing blond hair) :-)
