Ceara

“I don’t even know how to begin forming my mouth to pronounce this word jumble.  See-ra?  Sierra?  Shay-ra?  See-are-a?  Does it make a ‘ch’ sound, like ‘ciao?’  Is it a fucking acronym?  A palindrome?  Aren’t there too many vowels?  WHAT THE FUCK!?!”

That is exactly what I would say if I were a teacher doing roll call on the first day of school and this pile of shit crept up.  Then I would send the little shit to the corner and make her think about what her parents have done.

Let’s assume that this is pronounced “Sierra.”  That would make the most sense on its face (which is most likely why it’s NOT actually pronounced this way).  Why not just name her “Sierra?”  Do they think there will be an overabundance of those in her school?  How many of them do YOU know?  Why spell it all funky and confuse the rest of us trying to read it?

I’ll tell you why — because people who do this shit have never done a god damned thing in their lives that will leave a mark on this world, so they think that they will get the attention they crave by trying to make their kid unique.

Either that, or they’re just a couple of fuckwads.

i worked at an elementary school where there was a preponderance of little sierras, and among them were all sorts of obnoxious spelling variations. i wanted to pull their parents aside and find out if they knew that “sierra” is just spanish for “saw”. as in, the cutting tool. oooh, pretty.

Wow. I never would have thought it was pronounced as Kay-ra, because it should be spelled “Caera” for that to make any sense. Sucks to be you girl.

Ceará (pronounced: sey-ah-RAH) is the name of a state in Brazil… But I don’t think it’s something I’d want to name my child. LOL!
